Planning Skills Webinar - Land, Planning and Delivering Rural Affordable Housing

There are concerns that not enough housing is being built to meet need and demand in rural Scotland. As part of its work on land for housing, the Scottish Land Commission appointed Savills to investigate the issue. The report looks at the main challenges in delivering rural affordable housing, identifies what works and could be replicated, and makes recommendations to deliver more land for housing.

A striking finding is that major housebuilders don’t operate in most of rural Scotland. This means that new homes have to be delivered by other players, including communities, not for profit organisations and SMEs.

The research makes a number of recommendations on how local authorities can support the delivery of more rural homes to help communities across Scotland reach their potential.
